I have always enjoyed working with people. My background is working for many years in family law. Relationship or marriage breakdown and the resulting complications and implications for the family are often traumatic and difficult to negotiate without support. I began to feel limited in that role by simply working within the legal framework and I became frustrated at not being able to offer more emotional support. I believe that this background experience adds to my practice when working with relationship and family issues and in couples counselling.
I retrained as a Counsellor and studied over 4 years obtaining a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (Psychodynamic) from a BACP accredited training facility. The training involves counsellors also seeking their own personal therapy and therefore I understand for myself how it feels to be on the other side of the counselling relationship. I continue to develop my skills and knowledge by attending regular CPD events to enable me to offer different ways of working with my clients. Recent additional training has included working with trauma, abuse, mindfulness, ecotherapy, couples work and body psychotherapy.
In addition working in private practice, I have also worked with 3 local charities offering counselling to adults and young people in West Sussex.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and work within their ethical guidelines.
I work in a quiet and relaxing therapy room in Littlehampton town centre. I am also interested in the therapeutic benefits of working outdoors and more information can be found on my Walk and Talk therapy page.
I offer daytime and evening appointments Monday to Friday.
